Glyn & Will in Glencoe, Scotland

Glyn and Will, along with Rudy the Schnoodle, began this blog in an 18th century farmhouse named RavenOak in Southeastern Pennsylvania, their home for thirteen years. Today, after four years on the South Cumberland Plateau in a small log cabin named Dayenu, they are “permanently” retired in Chattanooga.

Both Will and Glyn are avid gardeners and over the years turned the yards around their various homes into a series of gardens, paths, and meditation spots. In the summer, several of the gardens are used for herbs, and vegetables which Glyn uses in her recipes and preserves for use throughout the winter. Together they write and manage this blog of recipes, celebrations, liturgies, and seasonal meditations. They also now own and operate their own handweaving business “Ephods and Pomegranates” and produce handwoven liturgical attire.

In retirement, Will has converted to Judaism. Glyn remains a retired Episcopal Priest. Together, they cherish the shared emphasis of Holy Scripture for their witness to God’s loving-kindness/chesed, abiding-presence/shekinah, and peace/shalom. In appreciation of that heritage, they have named our home Dayenu and are devoting their lives in retirement to sharing what they are calling “Dayenu Spirituality.” The word “Dayenu” is best known from a song used in Passover Seders. In that context, it means (roughly) “if God had only given us the smallest blessing, it would have been enough, but see how much more God has done for us.” Their understanding of Dayenu is based on these beliefs:

God is love and loves all that God has made.
Life is a gift from God and is to be celebrated.
The illusion of scarcity is a fearful lie and cripples our spirits.
Love overcomes fear.
God has provided enough.
Only when we share, is there enough to go around.
A life of gratitude and simplicity is abundant life.

Glyn retired as a pastor in the Episcopal Church, after serving congregations in Michigan, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania. In addition to this cooking blog, she is a hand weaver and designs and produces textiles, church ornaments, and clothing.

A Sad Note:
We lost Rudy to canine diabetes in 2017, but remember him as the real Ruler of the Roost ~  He slept at the foot of the bed every night, often under the covers, and did not believe Will & Glyn should hug one another without including him in on it!
